Experts Warn Against Using Air Fryers Instead of Ovens

Martin Lewis, a money-saving expert, says it's not always a good idea to rely on air fryers to cook everything because it takes time and money to prepare certain dishes.

"Air fryers are great for small things that are done quickly," he said during an appearance on This Morning. "If you're going to use the air fryer 15 different times for different things, generally speaking, in terms of energy consumption, you're better off using an oven. So that's an interesting thought."

He continued, "If you're going to use the air fryer fifteen different times for different things, generally speaking, in terms of energy consumption, you'd be better off using an oven."

"If you cook a jacket potato for 10 minutes, it's going to be a lot cheaper [in the microwave] than cooking a single potato in the oven and keeping it in the oven for an hour and a half."

Steven Kipling of Which? supports this view. "The savings quickly add up if you're going to cook in batches. And if you have a lot of cooking to do, you might be doing it because air fryers don't have as much space as a regular oven or stovetop. So if you're cooking large quantities, the oven or stovetop may still be the more economical choice."

Despite this, those who are heavily dependent on air fryers hate the thought of not using this appliance every day, even multiple times.

“I’m not listening to him on that point. I air fry everything. I’ll even air fry a cup of tea,” one person commented.

What do you think? Are you one of those who are heavily dependent on your air fryer?
